Zakia Dhifaoui raped and tortured Ben Ali should be judged by the International Criminal Court

We have just learned with dismay and anger sexual abuse in jails Ben Ali, whose victim was a journalist activist member of the Democratic Forum for Labour and Freedom (FDLT), and member of the Association against Torture in Tunisia (ALTT) following demonstrations in support of trade unionists from mining area Gafsa.

In an interview with Swiss daily Le Temps, hours after her release, Ms. Dhifaoui had the courage to speak modestly of his ordeal: "I spent three months and ten days in prison in Gafsa.

At first I was raped. Today I'm healthy, my morale is good and I have one thing in mind: to continue my work journalist and politician.

But I do not know if I have the right to do so. "(See The Times of November 7, 2008, and Tunisnews same date, interview with Isolda Agazzi, InfoSud).

We know that most other inmates in the same case were also tortured, as were and are still a significant proportion of political prisoners since the accession of General Ben Ali to power in 1984.

torture and rape on a massive scale in Tunisia benalienne are based on the criteria of the UN a crime against humanity.

They are also easy but effective weapons the hands of the regime to spread terror throughout the country. Ben Ali has understood since he took office as top cop in 1984.

Torture is for him the magic wand that makes any Tunisian sheep, because humiliated and terrorized.

We call these crimes persisted for 24 years in Tunisia - to count only the reign benalien - be denounced and combated with the utmost vigor by all Tunisians.

We ask that the primary responsibility for these crimes and payer General Ben Ali was arrested and tried along with his accomplices and executioners before the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.

We ask the activists to mobilize against these serious scourges of torture and rape of women who are poisoning our entire society and which are the keystone of the whole system of police terror.

We express to Mrs. Zakia Dhifaoui feelings of solidarity and we offer our sympathy for what she has suffered from gross inhumane, and we encourage them to complain to the International Criminal Court against his tormentors cons and their principals.
