The assassination Marouane Ben Zineb: the brutality of a regime.
Ahmed Manaï,
Horizon 94, No. 1, August 1993, p. 11-12.
Marouane Ben Zineb was a brilliant computer scientist of 27 years. In July 1989, in the middle of the summer heatwave of Tunisia, while his friends indulged in the pleasures of the beach, feverishly preparing for his trip to the USA where he managed to get a scholarship, at the same time he rose, through long therapy sessions, a recent traffic accident.
A morning of July 28, he borrowed as his usual, his father's old R12 to get to the hospital. On his way he took a friend that he filed a few miles away, never to give sign of life for eight days.
From the dark, is in total disarray Ben Zineb. We had noticed from Marouane, in recent weeks, an unusual nervousness, we tried to explain the preparations for the trip. But this could not justify a fugue of a young man tidy. The whole family is mobilized to find him.
All dealings with the police, National Guard, hospitals prove as futile as those undertaken early enough with friends.
Only in the second day as her sister remembered that Marouane had expressed his fear for the secret he had pierced a few weeks ago, casually eyeing the computer system of the presidency. He spoke in particular of Israeli Mossad agents accredited to Tunis to watch the leaders of the PLO and the number of Tunisian and Arab activists of the Palestinian cause. It does not tell him more, but it was enough.
the third day, Habib Ben Zineb, father, Retired Justice, obtained an audience with Chedly Neffati. This newly appointed Interior Minister in lieu of the pair of slaps he received publicly a few days earlier in the lobby of the ministry when he was the secretary of state, from Moncef Ben Ali for ordering the arrest of some of his closest dealer.
Father reminded the minister's long list of services he has rendered to the state during his career as a Judge and assured him he would consent to sacrifice even though the son if necessary: provided that the person say that it was the State that had.
The minister said the response he heard three days of the mouth of Chiefs of Police Station: Marwan was not arrested, has never been researched and has been reported in any traffic accident. This was said in a tone which did not escape the fiber lying in the old Judge. Leaving the ministry, Habib Ben Zineb was convinced that his son had been there, and if there was more, he would already be buried somewhere or in a hospital morgue.
the eighth day of his disappearance, Marwan was found effectively to the morgue of the Hôpital Charles Nicolle, registered under a false name, five days earlier. Reason of death: traffic accident.
same time as his corpse was found at his old R 12 Hammam-Lif, at Bou-Kornine few meters the track and less than 50 meters from the police station traffic!
In the trunk of the car, there were papers, sunglasses, watches and other personal effects, stored with great care. But above all there was the key to the car miraculously deposited on the faceplate to the front right wheel. Before
"throw themselves" under the train, Marwan had carefully put everything in order. But death has never been so hard to earn his burial. He waited another eight days to be laid to rest. Never
police has so graced the funeral of a simple and anonymous citizens. The day before his burial, she invests the district and joined the family to ensure the body. She assured for weeks close protection of the tomb, on the lookout for any revelation beyond the grave Marouane ...
We just learned that the father of Marwan fell in recent months in a coma following a stroke.
